چکیده

This paper presents a detailed study of the clock jitter error in multi-bit continuous-time ΣΔ modulators with non-return-to-zero feedback waveform. It is demonstrated that jitterinduced noise power can be separated into two main components: one that depends on the modulator loop filter transfer function and the other dependent on input signal parameters, i.e. amplitude and frequency. The latter component, not considered in previous approaches, allows us accurately to predict the resolution loss caused by jitter, showing effects not taken into account previously in literature despite the fact that they are especially critical in broadband telecom applications. Moreover, the use of state-space formulation makes the analysis quite general and applicable to either cascade or single-loop architectures. Closed-form expressions are derived for in-band error power and signal-to-noise ratio that can be used to optimize modulator performance in terms of jitter insensitivity. Time-domain simulations of several modulator topologies (both single-loop and cascade) intended for VDSL application demonstrate the validity of the presented approach.

A New Method for Elimination of the Clock Jitter Effects in Continuous Time Delta-Sigma Modulators

In this paper the spectral density of the additive jitter noise in continuous time (CT) Delta-Sigma modulators (DSM) is derived analytically. Making use of the analytic results, extracted in this paper, a novel method for elimination of the damaging effects of the clock jitter in continuous time Delta-Sigma modulators is proposed. In this method instead of the conventional waveforms used in the...

On the Design of a Less Jitter Sensitive NTF for NRZ Multi-bit Continuous-Time ΔΣ Modulators

This paper studies the clock jitter error in multi-bit continuous-time Delta-Sigma modulators with non-return-tozero (NRZ) feedback waveform. It proposes a few useful formulas for the design of a less jitter sensitive NTF. The analytic results and MATLAB simulations show that in the design of an NTF, there is a trade-off between the in-band quantization noise and the jitter induced noise of the...

A reduced jitter-sensitivity clock generation technique for continuous-time ΣΔ modulators

A clock generation technique for reducing the clockjitter sensitivity of Switched current (SI) Return-to-Zero (RZ) DAC in CT ΣΔ modulators is presented in this paper. While realizing the clock-jitter insensitivity, this technique ensures that the feedback period can be utilized more efficiently so that the amplitude of feedback current can be reduced. The proposed technique employs simple digit...

Jitter Effects in Continuous - Time Modulators Withdelayed Return - to - Zero Feedbacko

A general method to design continuous-time Sigma{ Delta ((() modulators with delayed return-to-zero (RZ) feedback pulse is presented. This method can be applied to design modulators with any arbitrary delay and pulse width. It is shown that the key-point to avoid the degrading eeects of clock jitters, is to generate a low jitter feedback pulse-width, using a monostable multivibrator.

Derived expressions show that the jitter-induced noise power can be separated into two main components: one that depends on the modulator loop filter transfer function and the other one due to the input signal parameters, i.e amplitude and frequency.
